Impartial Statements for Income

After seeing several thousand memes based on some random spiritual or intellectual iconic figure offering us all a vision of a glorious future, I decided to mention this simple thought for the day.

Beware advice given by people who make a living off of giving advice.

Unless you signed a contract and know exactly what you’re paying for.

If someone gives away “FREE” advice, yet lives off of the charity of others, their advice is completely suspect. Imagine that you had a very finely defined demographic of supporters. Imagine that you were afraid to lose your demographic of supporters. Imagine that you fed your supporters exactly what they wanted and expected to hear from your sagely lips. Imagine that they reacted to these vague regurgitated statements by supporting you even more. Yeah, not that much of a stretch. You’ve probably already thought of a handful of names.

On the other hand imagine that you came up with something totally honest that offended and infuriated your supporters. Would you risk the entirety of your cushy existence of traveling the world regurgitating sagely advice while hanging out with the richest and most powerful of every nation? Just to be honest for a change?

That would be a tough decision to make, for sure.

People who take money openly for their advice and suggestions can just say whatever they want, including the truth, and if you don’t like it so what. You paid for advice. You got advice. Take it or leave it.
